A Temperance Tarot Tuesday

Welcome back to your weekly Tarot Tuesday! It’s official, humanity is collectively experiencing some very strange and vivid dreams. (Both the waking and the sleeping kind, come to think of it. Maybe we’ve been in a dream this entire time? Anyway.) The other night I had a dream that I got “TEMPERANCE” tattooed in very big bold capital letters across my arm. Ironically, I got it done very hastily, realizing only when I returned home and took off the bandage that the word had been spelled wrong.

So why is “TEMPERANCE” calling for attention, especially now? Merriam-Webster defines the word “temperance” as “moderation” or “voluntary self-restraint.” So why tell me to chill when I’ve been chilling? We have all been at home; no one is exactly going wild at the moment. But this could be the perfect time to reflect on how we have been living, and how best to find balance in our lives moving forward.

Sup, sorcerer/esses? Ready to open up wide for your dose of Tarot Tuesday? Here we go!

Few Tarot cards inspire as much trepidation as the Tower, and it’s not very challenging to understand why. I mean, look at that illustration! It’s one of the most extra cards in the whole damn deck. But we’re going to go there, because this card is especially relevant to our collective human experience right now.

2020 vision: double this popular tarot tradition for extra insight

“Happy new year” just doesn’t seem like enough of a greeting this time! Not only are we entering a new year, we are entering a new decade, and not just any decade – one that is also an angel number! I have been paying more attention to angel numbers recently, and 22 is the one that I have been seeing around most frequently. (For those of you who are new to angel numbers, they are numbers that often appear repetitively and are considered to be messages with underlying meanings or guidance.) The number 22 is popping out of 2020 with some vey good omens indeed!

The number 2 has long been associated with balance and duality. When I started researching 22 as an angel number, I noticed it was frequently said to pop up as a reminder that we are able to manifest and multiply the goodness we are meant to bring to this life. This number calls on us to trust our inner wisdom while we create the balance in our outer world needed to make our dreams a reality.

So let’s start off this magical year with a reminder that we are all high-vibrational beings with the gift of life and the ability to create. So much of daily life distracts us from remembering that we are magic! Don’t forget!

Your Guide to the Year Ahead: The Essential New Year Tarot Spread

Congratulations! Whether you feel like you kicked 2018’s ass or it kicked yours, you made it through this year and it’s on to the next one. There’s one tarot ritual I have made sure to do right around the start of the new year for over a decade now: the yearly tarot spread. My mom taught me to read tarot as I grew up and although she was the one to introduce the concept of a New Year Tarot spread to me, a recent Google search revealed that it is in fact very much A Thing. So I won’t claim this as an original idea or concept at all, but I still feel very inclined to continue to spread the word about this yearly ritual that I have gained a tremendous amount of value from and highly recommend you try (if you haven’t already).

Develop your intuition with passive divination!

Have you ever heard a snippet of a random conversation from passers-by and caught a few words that seem relevant to your life? Have you ever come across something while lost in thought and said to yourself, that’s a sign? You are onto something when this happens — in fact, you are practicing what I like to call “passive divination.” You are tapping into your intuition using your senses, and the more you stay aware of it, the better you’ll get. So let’s talk about it!

Solve your problems with this tarot trick

Whether you’re a seasoned tarot reader or someone who is brand new to your tarot deck, this “tarot battle” exercise is designed to help you discover more about yourself and your cards while also potentially helping you remove mental blocks that prevent you from solving seemingly insurmountable obstacles. This can be performed with any tarot deck — today I am using the Rider-Waite deck because it is super clear and easily interpreted, but I have found many others that I love. Feel free to use whatever inspires you most.

While it is great to draw a card at random from your deck, it is super beneficial to take a good look through your cards and get to know them by seeing them all as they are. You can work with them by choosing certain cards that resonate with your current state of mind; it doesn’t take away the magic to pick intentionally, I promise! It will actually deepen your understanding of the super relatable parts of life that they represent.

So if you’re going through something —  perhaps a problem that is hard to solve or even difficult to begin to think of a solution to — pick out a card that most symbolizes what you are going through. The cards are dramatic as hell, so please don’t be afraid to pick what resonates with you at this time, even if it’s a bit of a stretch. Tarot is all about symbolic associations so universal that they work on a subliminal level, helping you find answers within yourself that you may not have been able to reach on your own.
